what I’m packing for a beach vacation!

We are headed out on a family beach vacation… be sure to follow me on Instagram to catch up with all our activities and my outfits in real-time. I’m super eager to spend some quality time with the family at the beach.  Not to mention taking a week off from sports, making dinner and the general craziness of a household with two teens. Beach vacations are always my favorite – I can’t wait to catch up on reading, swim in the ocean and sleep in. Today I’m chatting up the items I plan on packing… this doesn’t include the 20 +/- items I will throw in last mintue. Haha! I always try to pack minimally, but it rarely works. So this is the majority of what I am packing… I’m really hoping to stick to this tight group of items.

I will say my biggest packing “hack” is choosing a color scheme and packing around that theme. For this trip I chose lots of blues and white. I also added in a few black pieces as well. Choosing a few colors to work around make getting dressed when you arrive super easy – everything will mix and match so easily without having to plan a lot of specific ‘outfits’ for the trip.

Clothing from left to right:
black caftan cover-up/dress, runs big, I went down a size. I thought this was only a cover up at first but the description says it’s a dress (I should learn to read!) and after trying it on I can confirm it would work for both! So it’s great to pack for vacation because it can do double duty for beach or a dinner out.
white linen top (or similar), runs maybe a little big, I wear a 2 that fits like a small. Also love this for dinners or breakfast out or as a cover up.
blue linen top, runs big, I wear a 0 and it’s still roomy. Another piece that does double duty – works as a shirt or a swim cover up!
striped oxford, runs a little big. Not to sound like a broken record but I love when a top like this can be worn multiple ways on vacation. Wear with white jeans for dinner or over a swimsuit to ride bikes to the beach.
blue tank, true to size, an easy piece for grabbing coffee/smoothies or patio dining.
white tank, true to size, these are awesome and SO soft. Perfect for super hot afternoons.
blue/white stripe blouse, true to size, this has family dinner out written all over it. Cute and a little dressy, but still easy to wear!
linen tee, I went up a size for a slouchier fit,  another great lightweight piece for hot days.
navy cardigan, true to size, perfect for sunsets or overly air-conditioned spaces. I always like to have a few layering options packed. This will work great over a tank or tee or a dress for dinner, if needed.
CREW sweatshirt, true to size, I just HAD to have this fun retro inspired sweatshirt, it looks like a throwback from the 80’s or 90’s and I love it!
white jeans, runs a little big, I went with my smaller size, yes it will be warm and jeans are very optional, but I like the option.
blue denim shorts, runs big, I went with my usual size for a slouchy fit, perfect for riding bikes, grabbing lunch or breakfast or hanging on the porch.
white denim shorts, I go with my bigger size for more room, a vacation staple!
black gauze shorts, true to size, these make for a great swim cover up but also work for around town too. They are super lightweight so perfect on HOT days.
white dress, true to size, give me all the dresses for dinners out!
black dress, true to size, this one doubles as a great option for dinner out or as a swim cover up.
striped dress, true to size, so cute and summery and also works for over swim or for brunch.
patterned dress, true to size, perfect for sunsets and dinners out.
Shoes from left to right:
(I’ll also throw in some type of small purse,

summer lounge

If 2020 had any silver lining it was the lounge wear. I’m getting dressed everyday about 90% of the time, but I’m still loving having lots of fun wearing all the comfy and cozy loungewear. My favorite is after a hot and sweaty summer day or day at the beach or pool to shower and slip into loungewear to make dinner. It feels like a fresh start to the evening. You really don’t have to sacrifice style with lounge these days. These pieces are great for around the house, but I also included a few accessories to add that makes them great for running errands or running the carpool.

swimsuits I love!

Swimsuit shopping is the worst. Really, it truly is. But I love spending time at the pool and the beach so it’s a necessity I’m willing to work through. If you feel the same way then hopefully I’ve done the hard part for you today. I’m chatting up my 4 favorite swimsuits today – a few new styles and a few tried and true. I used to love a mix of bikinis and one piece suits but over the years I’ve wanted more tummy control so a one piece was the way to go for me. But sometimes wearing a one piece can be annoying, they are difficult to go to the bathroom in and while I usually love a covered stomach area, they sometimes aren’t gravity friendly and I’m always feeling like they inch down my body. My recent obsession is a compromise on both parts – I love a high waisted suit to cover the stomach but still be comfortable to wear. In my opinion, no bathing suit is PERFECT but these to me are about as close as it gets!

Sizing: Both these pieces run true to size (I’m a medium in the top and small in the bottom). The bottoms have quite a bit of extra fabric with the ruching, I thought it might be too much so I tried the next size down but those were too small. In the end the ruching is extra fabric, but also quite flattering.
Why I love it: this top is supportive and comfortable. The ties are only decorative so you don’t have to worry about them coming undone. I love this light blue color for summer (more colors are available)!
Shown with: tote, similar top, hat

Sizing: True to size. I’m a medium in the top and small in the bottoms.
Why I love it: The plunge top has a flattering deep v cut but also is super comfortable to wear. The straps are adjustable as well. These high waisted bottoms are super soft and stretchy making them very comfortable. The tie is a cute accent, but is also removable if you prefer not to wear it for swimming, etc.
Shown with: sandals, shorts, sweater
Sizing: I go up a size in this suit, I wear size 4.
Why I love it: This style is so mom friendly. It’s so comfortable and while I don’t usually go for a bold pattern – this leopard is so fun and actually is quite classic and neutral. I got it last year (or two years ago?) and it continues to be favorite!

Sizing: I go up a size in this suit. I’m a size 4 in this swimsuit.
Why I love it: This suit is the same as the leopard above but the simple black is a classic go-to for me. In fact, I’ve had this suit for so long and have worn it so many times I’m surprised it hasn’t keeled over and died 😉 – it’s available in TONS of colors and just like the leopard suit above it’s very comfortable and a great mom-friendly suit.

Fourth of July Inspiration!

It’s almost that time of year… which is crazy to think it’s already here! This is always such a fun holiday to get dressed for each year. I miss the days of dressing my kids in cute Fourth outfits… but I’m fine having fun with all the red, white and blue for myself. I absolutely love this round up for all your Fourth of July outfit inspiration…

I always get lots of questions about the sunglasses I’m wearing so today I thought I would round them all up into one post for easy reference. These are the pairs that are in heavy rotation for me right now… they are all under $100 with most of them under $50.

I am such a sucker for sunglasses… I KNOW I have enough, but I see a cute pair and I can never resist. I just realized I have 3 pairs in my purse right now and one more in my car. It’s a little out of control… haha. I will say my eyes are super sensitive to sun, so I can hardly leave the house without a pair on my eyes without being blinded. Plus, I’ve realized over the years that a good pair of sunglasses covers a lot of evils… no sleep, constantly tired and stressed eyes (thanks pandemic and parenting teens) or just no makeup… a pair of sunglasses always makes my face look better. Let’s take a look at my favorites…

If you follow me over on Instagram you will know that I usually document my daily outfits over there in Stories. I don’t post everyday, but many days a week I try to snap a quick photo of what I am wearing that day. It’s a good mix of everything from rainy days to sunny days, slow summer days around the house or those go-go-go days. It’s always a good snapshot of my mood and my mom-life and of course, there’s often junk on the dining room table and dog toys in the background. It’s not super staged or made to look ultra pretty, but instead a real glimpse into my daily life.

Today I rounded up 14 of those looks… my days are mostly filled with driving kids around, working from home, running errands and the like. I realized I wear jeans or dresses most week days – when I am home more – and tend towards shorts on the weekend – when I am outdoors more. Hopefully these will give you some good ideas for outfits if you are feeling stuck with your summer wardrobe…

(above) Perfect for those super hot days, when you still need an extra layer in the AC. These shorts and this tee are super lightweight and great for hot weather.

(above) I love an easy button front top for summer. It’s a light layer that works both when it’s warm outside and cool inside. This is the perfect work from home look mixed with running some errands.

(above) Linen is my best friend in the summer. It’s so comfortable, always looks pulled together and works for errands, appointments and hoping on a zoom.

(above) What to wear when the weather looks iffy but you’ve got to be out and about? I wore this to my sons track banquet as rain loomed in the distance. Thankfully we stayed dry but a simple tank dress and these flip flop style Birks work rain or shine!

(above) Maybe you are noticing a trend… jeans, cute top & sandals are my summer go to. It’s definitely what I feel most comfortable in. This swingy top is super affordable and cute!

(above) We’ve been patio dining as much as possible these days and sometimes it can get a touch chilly in the evenings. I love this linen top because if you are sitting in the sun you can roll up the sleeves and if you are in the shade you’ve got a little extra coverage. With flare crop jeans it’s a cute and easy look!

(above) I’m not wearing leggings as much these days, but some days just call for it. Wow! I forgot how delightful they are… this outfit was a favorite. These drapey tees are so easy to wear and look great with everything!

(above) I’m a big fan of the short sweatsuit. This one is so comfy and soft for lounging but also works for errands or carpool too. I put a tee underneath the sweatshirt for cooler moments.

Shop the look: shorts (run big, go down a size), sweatshirt (true to size), tee (true to size)

(above) Throwing on a dress is as easy as it gets for a busy summer day. This empire waist dress is super soft and comfortable and looks pulled together for whatever the day holds.

(above) A rare summer day that calls for layers is a-okay in my book. I love this lightweight striped sweatshirt and it layers well with a jacket too (as needed!).

(above) You really can’t go wrong with a t-shirt dress. It’s summer-cozy and errand or lounging ready for whatever the day holds.

(above) This slightly cropped tank is a nice thick material that looks pulled together but is super easy to wear. I love it with white jeans and Birks for all the summer mom-duties.

(above) We recently went to a baseball game with another family. It was so fun and so hot! Thankfully our seats were in the shade after not too long, but this outfit was perfect for a super hot night. I didn’t end up needing the sweater on my shoulders and this tank and linen short combo kept me nice and cool.

(above) I think I wear more black in the summer than any other time. I simple black t-shirt always feels pulled together and easy with jeans.

Today I have SO many fun finds from Old Navy! I think you all will really enjoy these finds – or I hope you do! I especially love Old Navy in the spring and summer because I feel like their pieces are so fun, a touch trendy and they just do warm weather clothing SO well. Summer is a great time to add a few fun or trendy pieces to your closet and these pieces are super budget friendly as well.  Let’s take a look…

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: I wore this straight out of the box and have worn it a few times since then. It’s super soft and lightweight and perfect with shorts or jeans for summer. The pink stripes are JUST RIGHT.

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: I LOVE this dress but this color is just wrong for me, I keep trying this color and I want it work so bad but I feel like it’s just weird with my skintone. There are a few other colors available so I might try it one of those instead. But this fabric is a dream… the linen blend is perfectly drapey and doesn’t cling.

Sizing: True to size. I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This dress is perfectly casual in soft white cotton. I just LOVE the smocked details which makes it super comfortable. This would be adorable with denim jacket for date night or as a swim cover up or simple dress for around the house.

Sizing: True to size. I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This is a GREAT top for those super hot summer days. It’s perfectly lightweight and the ties at the shoulder are just SO cute. The straps are sewn together, so they won’t come undone if the ties come loose, fyi.

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This is by far one of my favorite from the bunch here. It’s SO pretty in person and hard to believe it’s such a budget find. This is just GORGEOUS for summer. I can’t wait to wear it!

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This is SO cute. The color is really hard to capture (or it was the day I took these photos) but if you look online that is a very true representation. (color is ‘warm hickory’) I love simple dresses like these for around the house, over swim or for errands.

Sizing: I’m in my usual size small in both pieces. True to size.

Thoughts: This fabric is so soft like a beach towel. I am loving these two piece sets this summer. They are great around the house or for running errands. This navy is so pretty and what a fun set for summer.

Sizing: True to size. I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This. Is. So. Good. It looks like it keeps going in and out of stock – for good reason, it’s so cute! So if it’s sold out, I will watch for restocks, Old Navy is usually good about restocking items.  It’s also available in solid navy – so pretty – here! This dress is perfectly lightweight, fits like a dream and honestly the fabric feels SO much more expensive that it is. I’m packing this in my summer vacation suitcase FOR SURE.

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: These tees are so good. I ordered quite a few. They wash well and I love that with the linen blend they look a touch dressier. They drape so well!
