jillgg’s good life (for less)

I’m so thankful for my kids being back to school. After two pretty rocky school years in our household, this year is thankfully off to a great start. Both kids are digging in, love being back in a routine and generally our entire household is running so much smoother with a routine. But keeping that routine going can be super overwhelming, for me at least! Homemade dinner and sports schedules and early, early mornings are a lot to juggle with my own commitments and it’s easy to feel the pinch. With teens in the house the bedtimes are getting later and later – both theirs and mine – and it’s not long before I feel like I’m burning the candle at both ends. Add in the challenge to get a good nights sleep in your 40s (its a THING, ugh) and the whole thing can go south pretty quickly.

For me, sleep is huge. I am not a great human being when I don’t sleep well and I tend to suffer from bouts of anxiety here and there that don’t make it better – especially over the past year and a half. I started taking Equilibria for sleep and a general feeling of calm in January of 2020. Along with walking, it’s been one of my absolute lifelines throughout the pandemic. I’m incredibly thankful for my CBD routine with Equilibria

If you have never tried CBD but are curious about it, Equilibria is such a great place to start. Women founded, they are keenly in tune with the needs of women and are working to bring calm and overall well being to their clients through high quality CBD products. I just love their mission and their team of amazing women. Plus, they have so many products there is truly something for everyone! I have a huge Q & A post from last fall with Equilibria about their products, so definitely check that out! Since then, they have so many new products so I thought I would do a quick refresher here of what I am using and loving from Equilibria… plus, their Labor Day Sale launches today so you can get 20% off sitewide (for everyone) + 15% off that is stackable with the sale for new clients with my code: Jill.gottlgeason

I highly recommend taking their QUIZ – it’s easy and quick and will help identify which products are best for your needs. Then once you get your products in the mail and try them, you can schedule a FREE one on one consultation with a dosage specialist to make sure you are getting the most out of your Equilibria products. These calls are so fun and informative and not sales-y or pushy at all. They seriously have the smartest and kindest team ready to help you!

Here are some of my favorites and why I love them… but don’t get overwhelmed but the options. Again, I highly recommend the quiz to get personalized suggestions before you order!

Gel Capsules

I take one softgel capsules before bed each night to help stay asleep all night. I try never to skip a night but if I do accidentally forget to take one, I can totally tell with my sleep quality the next day. A tip I learned from my dosage consult is that these softgels are fat soluble so a little bite of dark chocolate taken with them helps absorption. And I have to say, a little dark chocolate before bed is as great nighttime ritual. 😉

Drops

This was the first CBD product I tried and while I do still use them from time to time I have to say that the gummies have almost entirely replaced the drops for me (more about them below) since the gummies are just so much easier to take.

Calming Melts

I keep these in my purse for more acute stress. They work super fast and if I’m having a hectic day or find myself feeling like my anxiety is creeping in from running late to an appointment or whatever the day brings, I love having these on me!

Gummies

These are brand new and I’ve been using them for a little over a week now. I used to take the drops for the hectic afternoons when dinner needs to be made, the kids need to be driven a million places and the house is just HECTIC. Lately I’ve done a gummy in the early afternoon and I feel much calmer for the crazy after school routine.

Relief Balm

This is a MUST HAVE for aches and pains and even headaches. I use this for a sore neck, any aches and pains from tennis or even for headaches. It smells amazing and just the scent is calming but it also helps with pain almost on contact too. My husband LOVES this stuff and also uses it regularly after workouts.

Nordstrom try on session!

Today I have some great transitional fall pieces from Nordstrom. I’m REALLY excited to share these pieces with you and I’m even more excited for cooler weather so I can start wearing them. We have had a scorcher of the end of the summer but hopefully with the arrival of September we will start to see cooler temps coming. I never want to hurry away the summer but I’m definitely ready for a fresh start with my outfits. Let’s take a look at some of these super fresh pieces for fall…

(above & below) striped rollneck sweater
Sizing: This sweater runs small. I originally ordered a size small and then went back for the medium. This sweater is slightly cropped.
Thoughts: This sweater is definitely an investment piece. I literally “ohhed and ahhhed” when I first saw it. Love at first sight. It’s incredibly soft and cozy with no itch. There are some gorgeous alternative colorways available too. I’m a big fan.
Shown with: jeans

(above & below) black shelf bra tank
Sizing: I went with a size medium for this piece by using the size guide.
Thoughts: These shelf bra tanks were everywhere like 10 years ago and I haven’t seen them around in a while. This fabric is super soft and flattering and I love that it works like a body suit under cardigans, blazers, sweatshirts, etc. This is a great fall staple for layering.
Shown with: jeans, cardigan, mules

(above & below) sweater pants & sweater top
Sizing: The top runs big, I went down a size to XS. The bottoms are true to size and slightly cropped, I’m in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I just LOVE a lounge set. This is my first *sweater* lounge set. It’s SO soft and cozy and is listed as ‘hand wash’ but I think it would do fine on the delicate cycle in the wash. This set is just gorgeous though, incredibly soft and cozy and I love that it’s a bit elevated too. Perfect for around the house on weekends, running carpool or even brunching in style. These matching sets are going to be super on trend for fall.
Shown with: slides

(above & below) thermal top
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small. You could go up a size for a roomier fit.
Thoughts: Who doesn’t love a cozy thermal top? This one is super soft and is making me very exciting for cozy fall weekends. It’s got a tulip hem that work great with leggings. I paired it with joggers for a casual off duty look – these are one of my favorite joggers!
Shown with: joggersslides

(above & below) cream cardigan
Sizing: This cardigan runs big. I went down a size to XS.
Thoughts: This is another super cozy piece with NO ITCH. It’s so soft and another piece that is making me so excited for a little chill in the air. It’s a great transitional piece to wear with a tank or tee this fall. Every Free People sweater I’ve ever bought has become an instant classic. I’ve invested in a few FP sweaters over the years and I still own so many from years ago that I love.
Shown with: tankjeans, similar sneakers

(above & below) sherpa mules
Sizing: True to size.
Thoughts: Sherpa mules are a super hot trend this fall and this is a great affordable pair (I’ve seen some pairs for crazy expensive). They work great with jeans and sweaters for fall and are a fun trend I’m exited to experiment with. I also wanted to highlight that this sweater and jeans from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale are back in stock. I highly recommend BOTH. I’ve been wearing these jeans all summer and this sweater is patiently waiting (or not) in my closet for cooler temps.

color trend for fall: brown!

Brown is back! Brown is a huge color trend this fall… there are so many gorgeous shades and this trend just epitomizes fall in such a perfect way. Brown was very big in the early 2000’s. Both my bridesmaids dresses and the first soft my husband and I bought as a couple was brown (and not leather). Still not sure if I stand by those early decisions… but in the moment they felt very right. 😉

Brown is making a serious comeback for fall in both camels and rust colors which we’ve seen in previous seasons, but also in some of the more dusty hues and darker hues. If it’s brown, or close to brown… it’s big this year. Today I rounded up some gorgeous brown pieces I think you will love.

Nervous about incorporating this trend into your wardrobe this fall? Take baby steps by pairing a rust brown sweater with your favorite jeans or by pairing deep dark hues of brown with classics like chambray or white button front top. And the old black and brown shouldn’t be paired together is out the window too. A gorgeous brown sweater goes perfectly with black jeans or pair a brown sweatshirt with simple black joggers for a super modern look!

wear to where: date night!

Last week I launched a new series called “WEAR TO WHERE” with outfit ideas for events this fall and beyond. You all LOVED it! I’m back with another installment today and I am head over heels for these looks and hope you enjoy them as well.

I polled you all on Instagram Stories to see what events you want help with outfit planning for and the top response was fall sporting events… you can see that post HERE. A close second for responses was date night. My husband and I have definitely fell off on our regular date nights and I’m hoping to get back to them now that we are on a more regular schedule with back to school. Today I pulled together 3 simple and casual date night looks that I think you will love! I would for sure wear all of these!

(above) I love to swap a date night for a day date in the fall. Crisp air on sunny afternoons is perfect for outdoor dining at your favorite beer garden or brunch spot. This casual outfit is perfect for a fall day date.

Shop the look: brown puff sleeve dress, sneakers, handbag, bracelets, sunglasses

(above) Anyone ready to break the heels back out this fall for a date night? This simple but classic date night look is perfect for getting dinner at the newest hottest place in town.

Shop the look: black blouse, distressed jeans, braided heels, quilted handbag, layered necklaces

(above) I love a dinner and movie date and my husband and I haven’t done this in forever. I’m craving it… this cozy outfit is perfect for a chilly movie night!

Shop the look: white jeans, chunky sweater, crossbody bag, pearl hoop earrings, clogs

jillgg’s good life (for less)

I am having a *moment* with jewelry right now… and especially delicate gold pieces and layered necklaces. It’s feels like a little extra fancy layer now that life seems more normal and I am getting out more. Some of my favorites finds are super budget friendly pieces from Amazon and are also huge fan favorites. I thought I would round them all up into one blog post for easy shopping for you all! I highly recommend all of these, they have held up great and I wear them all quite regularly.

If you are loving my Amazon picks you can see all my Amazon finds from the archives here

I have seen so many gals on Instagram wearing these delicate bracelets and they always look so pretty. I was afraid they would tangle easily, so I went for the budget version with an Amazon find. Turns out they don’t really tangle! They are super comfortable to wear and I love the look!

I’m not a huge earring person, so these tiny delicate earrings are perfect for everyday wear while being simple and classic and not heavy at all. They are a new favorite for fall!
I’m loving the layered necklace trend but I’m often a little stumped on what necklaces to layer with what. That’s why little sets like these are perfect for me – the guess work is done for you! This J pendant is also reversible to kind of starburst pattern so you can wear it either way.

I probably get the most questions about this piece! Everyone loves a good Apple Watch Band and this one is such a good deal. It also holds up really well. I’ve worn it everyday since I got it and it’s got a few worn spots but still looks great. For mom duties, to work, to workouts… I’m wearing it all the time. My husband also got the same one to match his Apple Watch and loves it too. I will also note that I’ve found the ‘rose gold’ Apple Watch the hardest to color match when buying bands and this one is near perfect match!

I’m definitely a minimalist when it comes to jewelry and these are so easy and classic to throw on with a dress or sweater for a dressed up look. You can wear them all or just a few and the entire set is such a good deal.

summer to fall Everlane favorites!

You all know my love for Everlane runs deep. The Everlane items are the items that last the longest in my closet for sure. Their simple and classic pieces never seem to go out of style and the high quality makes them easy to wear again and again for years. I recently got a few new Everlane pieces for the summer to fall transition that I am really loving and already wearing a ton. I’m excited to show those to you today along with a MAJOR favorite from last spring that I can’t wait to wear again this fall.

organic cotton v-neck (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small. Slightly cropped.
Thoughts: Everlane is know for making the most *perfect* t-shirts. I don’t know how they do it! This organic cotton v-neck is a great summer to fall piece. Fresh for now and works great with layers for later. What I love about this tee is it’s perfectly soft and not see through and not too dramatic of a v-neck. I also appreciate the longer sleeve since this late in the summer I’m kind of over showing a bunch of skin (is that a thing? I think it is.)
Shown with: chore jacket (in Walnut), shorts, necklace & necklace set

blue relaxed Oxford (above & below)
Sizing: True to size. I went up to a size 4 for extra room. (note: size 2 fits like a small, this would be between a small and a medium)
Thoughts: I love this classic look. Simple and pulled together with minimal effort – so easy! This top works for casual around the house with white or blue jeans or dressed up a bit with black jeans (see down further). It’s so so versatile. It would also be great for zoom meetings since it’s super soft and comfortable but looks very pulled together.
Shown with: jeans, sandalsnecklace & necklace set

Sizing: Runs small. I go with my bigger size with Everlane jeans always, this one I could’ve even gone up a size. They have a lot of stretch but run small.
Thoughts: I am still on the skinny jean train and not quitting any time soon. Especially a pair this flattering and soft. I love the high rise and medium blue color of these – a true closet staple.

blue relaxed Oxford (above & below)
Here is another look at this Oxford a little more dressed up for fall, maybe for the office or it’s still comfortable enough to wear for day to day too. I love the blue with the black jeans for a crisp and chic look. This top also works really well with this chore jacket that I love so much. It’s the perfect extra layer for fall.

jillgg’s good life (for less)

Today I’ve got some H&M finds for you… there are some GORGEOUS pieces here unfortunately I got the sizing wrong on a few of them. But let my mistakes be your guide, I’ll be sure to note sizing and why they didn’t fit so if you decide to order any of these items you can get it right the first time. H&M is always a little bit tricky for ordering. Some pieces have good information on fit and some just don’t so when I order it’s always a little bit of a shot in the dark. I will say that I much prefer ordering online versus shopping in person at H&M. Our local H&M doesn’t usually have tons of stock, so I find the online store to be easier to navigate and find items I really like.

Let’s take a look at the pieces I found…

Sizing: I went down a size to XS since it looked on the big side online. Unfortunately this top is still way too big. It looks okay in the photo because I kind of rigged it that way 😉 but for everyday wear the v-neck would be way to low for me personally.

Thoughts: Minus this top not fitting, it’s actually VERY pretty in real life. The fabric is silky and drapey and it’s a gorgeous summer to fall piece for school meetings, the office or date night.

Sizing: This is size small, it runs big and this one is a bit too big for me. I recommend sizing down one size.

Thoughts: Another piece that I am SUPER bummed I got the sizing wrong on. This sweater is gorgeous in person. It’s a thin and drapey ribbed knit that is super soft and luxurious feeling. I love the v-neck and side slit. You can see I have the sleeves rolled here because it’s too big (so sad). But I highly recommend this piece, just size down.

Sizing: I went with my usual size small for this piece. It’s slightly oversized, but just right in my opinion. If you are between sizes you could size down, but I say true to size.

Thoughts: I absolutely adore this sweater. It popped up in my “how to style clogs” post and you all loved it too! I absolutely can not wait for a cool day to break out this beauty!

Sizing: I went down a size to XS on this cardigan and I’m glad I did, it fits perfectly. I suggest going down one size.

Thoughts: This is a pitch perfect fall staple. The perfect weight to wear for early fall with tees and tanks or with warmer layers later this fall. The color is gorgeous too. This works well with jeans but would be perfect in an athleisure look with joggers or leggings. Also the price is AMAZING on this one!
