Old Navy try on session!

Today I have some fun finds for fall from Old Navy… I love sweaters for fall and tend to gravitate straight towards them once September hits. But Old Navy has tons of great fall pieces right now that aren’t sweaters… blouses, dresses and fun tops that I think you all will love. I’ve always loved Old Navy and this fall their selection is very fun! Let’s take a look at a few of the pieces I found…

rust mockneck sweatshirt (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I went up a size to medium for a more oversized fit.
Thoughts: I “needed” a few new sweatshirts for fall since many of my were from 2020 (the year that shall not be named) and quite frankly I’m ready to ditch those and put a few new ones in the rotation. I love the color on this one, so on trend! And the mock neck and pocket detail are great. Old Navy does sweatshirts really well and this one is perfect for wearing with joggers for an athleisure look. It would be cute with jeans too!
Shown with: joggers (I went down a size), similar sneakers

long sleeve t-shirt dress (above & below)
Sizing: I went down a size to XS.
Thoughts: I’m not much of a “fall dress” person. I tend to wear dresses more in spring and summer. This fall dresses seem to be really ‘hot’ and on trend. This t-shirt dress is perfect for warm fall days and I love this mauve/brown color. I really love it with a denim jacket for a bit more shape to the look.

Sizing: Runs true to size, I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: This top is SO cute for fall. I love the button detail and puff sleeves. If you are looking for a blouse for zoom calls or for the office this is it! If you are looking for a fall-ish top for when the weather is warm, this is it! It’s so versatile!

rust brown blouse (above & below)
Sizing: Runs a little big. I went with my usual size small but you could size down if between sizes.
Thoughts: This is my favorite piece in the bunch! It’s GORGEOUS in person and so pretty for fall. Talk about fall feels and fall vibes. I adore it! This is another piece that could work for zoom calls or the office, but works just as well with jeans for everyday wear too.
Shown with: jeans, clogs

black dress (above)
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: If you are looking for a ‘dressier’ dress than the one above for fall, maybe for the office or if you are a teacher, this one is SO cute! It’s has a tiny puff sleeve, an empire waist and pockets! All in a cozy t-shirt material that is the perfect weight to still make it very flattering.
Shown with: mules

wear to where: mom duty!

I’m back with a new WEAR TO WHERE post! This series is all about what to wear to different events (outdoor fall activities!) or certain locations (like the office!). You can see the entire series with TONS of great outfit ideas HERE.

I mostly go from requests from you all when deciding what to focus on for these WEAR TO WHERE posts and a recent request I got from a few of you was mom-friendly looks! For those days where you are on serious mom-duty, for those of you with littles that are on the floor playing and those times when you need super comfortable but stylish looks while you do ALL the things for the family. I have three looks JUST for you. I actually started this blog because I was at a loss of what to wear as a new SAHM. I went from working full time to staying home full time and it was tough for me to make the jump style-wise.

These looks are pulled together, modern and stylish while still being machine washable!

(above) I own and love these joggers. They are super comfortable and my husband calls them my “cute pants” – paired with a stripe tee and cute sneaks this is the ideal mom on the go look.

(above) Jeans and sweatshirts are a classic mom go-to combo and right on trend. I mean, what a time to be alive, ya know? Sweatshirts as the height of fashion. 😉 Clogs are huge this fall and this pair with a flat sole are SO mom friendly and chic right now!

(above) This is my daily uniform in the fall and winter. Distressed jeans, a sweater and sneakers. You just can’t beat it! And this sweater is even machine washable (I would lay flat to dry) so it’s just SO convenient and cute!

Style Q & A!

Last week I did a call out on Instagram Stories to ask what you wanted help shopping for this season. I answered the questions in Stories that were most common and I thought it would be fun to share them here as well. You all had lots of questions but the most popular questions were about fall shoes, handbags, what to wear to a fall wedding and cardigans I’m loving right now. I’ve got lots of shopping links for each question below…

Question: What should I wear to a fall wedding?

Answer: This was a super popular question and I have a special place in my heart for fall weddings since my own anniversary is in just a few weeks. Fall weddings tend to be a little more casual and often include an outdoor element. I kept that in mind when choosing dresses for a fall wedding here. I also included a few dressier options as well – and keep in mind it’s also fundraiser season, so many of these would be great for fall fundraiser events too!

Question: I’m looking for a new fall handbag under $300, suggestions?
Answer: Fall is my favorite time to invest in a new handbag. The rich browns and tans are so beautiful this time of year and the selection is great since fall is really big for handbags. Here I chose 9 gorgeous options to choose from whether you like a larger tote, a smaller crossbody or somethings right in the middle. I personally love all of these!

Question: What are your favorite cardigans this fall?
Answer: I love a cardigan for fall because it’s so versatile to whatever the temps are for the day. You can layer tees and tanks underneath for warm afternoons and a cardigan is always perfect for chilly evenings or over air-conditioned spaces. These are some of my favorites this fall…
Question: Shoes! Shoes! Shoes!
Answer: I had so many questions about fall shoes from boots to flats, to comfort shoes and even sneakers (which I will have to get back to another time). I rounded up the shoes I’m loving most this fall, some of these I own and love and others are on my wishlist. The trends for fall shoes this year are a little outside my comfort zone with a lot of chunky soles and lug boots. I’m going for more feminine and timeless options this fall like flats, mules, loafers and clogs!

I love a blazer or jacket that I can keep pulling out year after year. Today I’m rounding up some J.Crew favorites that I’ve owned for several seasons along with some *new* favorites that I look forward to wearing for many more seasons ahead. These pieces are so versatile and classic and can be dressed up or down and worn a million ways. They are just true, true classics. Along with links and sizing information for the pieces shown, I’ll also include a lesser expensive option from J.Crew Factory, since most of these pieces have a factory “companion” if you will where you can get almost the exact piece from a much lower price.

Sizing: VERY oversized, I went down 2 sizes to an XXS for a more fitted look.

Why I love it: This extra layer is instantly chic and dressed up. Even here I just paired with a simple tank and it looks perfectly pulled together while still being so easy to wear and comfortable.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down one size to XS.

Why I love it: This is another piece where I feel instantly pulled together once I pop it on. Its comfortable like a cardigan but instantly looks chic. I own this one is 3 colors and they get lots of wear.

Sizing: Fits oversized, I went down a size to XS.

Why I love it: This is a new sweater blazer style for J.Crew and I love how drapey and boxy it fits. It’s very much a nod to 90s styles, which are definitely having a moment. This one is great for layering because it has a lot of room underneath. Even though it’s slouchier it still looks very pulled together and it’s super comfortable.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down to an XS and the sleeves are still quite long, but I have cuffed them.

Why I love this: This is a true sweater blazer, it definitely is the thickest and true sweater material. It’s very warm and cozy and will be a great extra layer this fall.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS.

Why I love this: I’ve owned this for 4 years and it still looks amazing. It’s one of my favorite spring/fall jackets and its been a great staple as a sports mom. I have worn this to probably a million soccer games – or it feels like it. I can’t recommend this one enough!

Sizing: I went down a size in this jacket, I’m in an XS.

Why I love it: This is the perfect fall/early winter jacket. I love the longer fit with the quilted details. And this color is SO good for fall. This jacket is new to me this season, but I already know it will get so much wear this fall and winter.

Sizing: True to size, I’m wearing a size 2, fits like a small.

Why I love it: I own this one in three colors and it’s definitely my go-to winter throw on coat. Definitely not for extended time outside, but for everyday running errands or dinner out, etc this coat works well over sweaters and instantly dresses up any look. I love that it’s comfortable to wear but also looks super dressy.

instagram lately!

You can always shop my Instagram posts HERE or in the LTK app (user: jillgg) but I thought it would be fun to pull together a huge round up of my most recent posts into one spot. There is TONS of fall outfit inspiration here and I hope you enjoy this big round up.

One of the biggest requests I always get is for office outfit inspiration. What to wear to the office is an age-old problem – right? I always struggled with it when I worked in a dressier office and even a casual office from time to time. I usually shy away from office wear content because I’m just not in that world anymore. But over the past two years, work wear has really been tipped on it’s head and has been entirely re worked. So many people are working from home still or are just returning to the office after a long break.

I thought it would be a good time to at least attempt to pull together some office inspired looks. Last week I polled my followers on Instagram to ask what their office environment was like these days. The most common responses were as follows: “I need a nice top to wear for zooms” and “I can wear jeans but it has to be more pulled together than everyday jean outfits” and “I need creative looks for a creative office environment” and “my dress code is casual but I *want* to dress up more than in years past.”

Today I pulled together three fun and fresh office outfits that definitely bring the professional vibe to your day whether you are in the office or still at home on zooms.  Let’s take a look at the outfits…

(above) I love a wide leg pant for the office right now. This is SO CHIC and paired with a cozy sweater for fall it’s not too overly dressy. It’s the perfect combo of dressed up and down for fall.

Shop the look: beige wide leg pants, suede heels, v-neck sweater, necklaces, logo tote

These cropped faux leather pants are so hip and fun. I love them with a beautiful blouse and flats. This is perfect for a creative office or for a office to happy hour look on Fridays.

If you are still working at home or have a casual office environment a simple denim and blouse combo can be dressed up with a blazer for a pulled together look.

Shop the look: dark jeans, ankle bootswhite blouse, herringbone blazer, suede tote

Today I’ve got a round up of some sweaters that I just LOVE from Amazon from previous seasons that are BACK in stock! I was recently organizing sweaters and pulling out some fall and winter pieces from their storage and when I pulled out these Amazon sweaters I fell in love with them all over again. They are classics!  They are also super affordable and have held up well over multiple seasons so it’s worth featuring them again here.

If you want to see more of my Amazon favorites from the archives… click HERE. Let’s take a look at the sweaters and some outfits…

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.

Thoughts: I just love the gold button detail on the neck (hard to see here, but check out the website) and the bold stripes that are so classic and very on trend for fall. This sweater looks so cute layered with a jacket!

Sizing: Runs big, I went down to an XS.

Thoughts: This is such a favorite and for many seasons. I think this one is maybe 3 years old. It’s perfectly oversized and super warm and great for cool days. I love this one with leggings, today I paired it with jeans – both work!

Sizing: Runs big, I went with a small for this one. (it’s the same sweater as above in a different color & size)

Thoughts: Loved it so much I bough it twice! I will admit the black one definitely shows dog hair worse (ugh, that’s life) it’s also one of my favorites. Perfectly oversized and slouchy for fall and winter. This is another one that works great with leggings.

Sizing: Runs big, I’m in an XS.

Thoughts: This is another one that is great with leggings. I love the ribbed fabric and drapey look to it. I will say this one does not look anything like the photo online, so keep that in mind. This one works really well with leggings, it’s so perfectly oversized.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS and it’s still nicely oversized.

Thoughts: This sweater is similar to a popular Free People sweater and is a great option at a lower price point. I love the timeless Holly Golightly vibe of it… especially with jeans and flats.

madewell try on session!

I always get SO excited for Madewell’s fall new arrivals. They do fall SO well and I always love their sweaters and jeans. Today I’ve got some really great staples for fall that I can’t wait to show you. We are in one more warm burst of weather, but it looks like after this little stretch we should be in some prime fall weather. I can’t wait to dive into sweaters and jackets and layers…

Let’s take a look at some of the pieces I found and my honest thoughts on them…

I will say in advance that I ordered these fatigue pants and they just didn’t work. They are very oversized and didn’t fit and even if they did fit aren’t a super flattering cut for me personally. I never know whether or not to include the “flops” but for today’s post I just didn’t feel like including them.

military shirt jacket (above & below)
Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS.
Thoughts: I thought this was more of a jacket with a cinched waist… which is hilarious because it’s actually called a “shirt jacket” and I missed that somehow. I don’t love the shirt jacket trend because I like a more defined waist with this style of jacket. But despite all that (user error!) I actually like it. I still need to decide if I would wear it enough without a defined waist. I really like the overall fit though. It’s a little oversized and works great for layering.
Shown with: sweaterjeans, clogs

Sizing: Sweater is true to size, I’m in my usual size small. Jeans run big, I went down a size.
Thoughts: This sweater is such a classic Madewell piece. It’s a great early fall staple in a gorgeous textured knit. It’s the perfect weight too, not too light but not heavy either. It’s also NO itch because it has no wool. Let’s talk about these jeans… I got these earlier this summer and I LOVE them so they are worth mentioning again. They are the perfect straight leg jeans if you are new to straight leg jeans. They feel like skinny jeans with just a tiny straight leg opening so they are very easy to wear. I highly recommend both these pieces.
Shown with: clogs

alpaca cardigan & demi boot jeans (above & below)
Sizing: Sweater runs big, I went down a size to XS. Jeans run big, I went down a size.
Thoughts: This sweater is SO dreamy. I’m obsessed. The fabric is so soft and airy but warm and the buttons are so pretty. I just adore this look for fall. These jeans I LOVE. The wash is great and I like the distressed hem. There are a few things I’m deciding if I like (haha!) the length is longer which I know is a little more on trend but as a shorter person (5’4) I am still deciding if that works for me and secondly they don’t have much stretch. I realllllly love a stretch jean so I have to decide if these will work for me without the stretch.
Shown with: clogs

cream cardigan (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I’m in my usual size small.
Thoughts: Madewell does cardigans SO well. This one is gorgeous with the tortoise buttons and a nice side slit. The fabric is super unique, it’s a thinner knit that feels a little like sweatshirt. It’s very soft and stretchy. This is a great fall staple and not too thick if you live somewhere where it’s warmer.
Shown with: jeans, tankclogs

Sizing: These jeans run big with lots of stretch. I went down to my smaller size.
Thoughts: After striking out with the distressed pair of jeans in this post I reordered this pair and LOVE them. They are super stretchy but also flattering and the tiny flare at the bottom is perfectly modern without being overly trendy. I adore these jeans!
