October bestsellers!

Today I’m sneaking in the October bestsellers a little early… Monday is officially NOVEMBER (wha?) and I will be launching my gift guides next week Monday so this post is launching a little early to leave space for those. The bestsellers are all about what YOU all loved the most this past month. It was a cozy month for shopping… joggers, coats and lots of sweaters. Fall is in full swing and I’m really enjoying wearing all my cozy pieces and looks like you all are enjoying shopping for all the cozy pieces too! Let’s take a look at what you all loved the most this month.

(above) joggers
Sizing: These run a little big. I went down a size to XS.
These joggers are just the BEST. So comfortable but also nice thick fabric that still sucks you in (sometimes joggers can be too loose) and never bag out at the knees (super rare). Plus, they are under $50. You really can’t beat them!
Shown with: sweater, top, sneakers, bag is Polene

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.
The half zip sweater or sweatershirt is so on trend right now and I love that this option is super classic. It’s super warm and layers well.
Sizing: True to size. I am in my usual size small. This piece is a bit more fitted.
Classic, classic, classic! This sweater is nice and refined so while it works for everyday it also could work really well for the office or zoom meetings.
Shown with: jeans, loafers

Sizing: True to size, I am in a size 2, fits like a small.
This coat is a standby in my closet for fall and winter. It’s instantly refined and pulled together looking. I love it with jeans for dinner out or over leggings for errands.
Shown with: sweater, mulesjeans, bag

(above) agolde jeans
Sizing: I always go with my bigger size with this brand.
I just love agolde jeans lately, the few pairs I own are my GO-TO right now. This pair has the perfect amount of stretch to be flattering and comfortable.
(above) ankle boots
Sizing: True to size.
These are SO beautiful and really comfortable. You can see a few ways to style them here

favorite winter coats from J.Crew!

J.Crew is my go-to for winter coats. I find their coats to be perfectly warm and classic. Some of these are over 5 or 6 years old and still favorites. Today I will outline their warmth and sizing information for you all if you are in need/want of a new winter coat for this season. Living in Michigan I consider myself a somewhat pro at winter coats, they get A LOT of wear and I never feel too guilty adding a new style or two to my closet each year because I know they will last forever and serve me for many seasons to come!

I wear these coats all winter long, but some are warmer than others. I ordered them from least to most warm – I’ll chat more about warmth for each coat below too.

Sizing: True to size. I am in size 2, fits like a small.
Warmth: Perfect for 40s to 50s, to make it warmer layer with a warm sweater.
Thoughts: I own this in multiple colors and it’s my go-to for leaving the house feeling pulled together in the winter. It’s easy to wear but instantly looks refined.
Shown with: sweater, jeans, flats, purse

Sizing: I went down a size to XS.
Warmth: I would say high 30s, 40s and 50s. Layer with a warmer sweater and scarf for cooler temps.
Thoughts: Love this color and this style! The gold hardware is so beautiful. I’ve worn this a few times to cold soccer games and it’s worked great! I love that it’s perfectly casual for mom duties but still looks nice.
Shown with: sweaterjeansclogs, headband

Sizing: Runs big. Mine is super old and is a 00 but is a little too small in the arms now. I would go with a 0 or 2 these days.
Warmth: 30s, 40s, 50s. Very warm. It’s thick wool with thinsulate. The perfect “dressy” warm coat.
Thoughts: I’ve owned this for SO long and it still looks great. It’s a touch small (unfortunately) but I still wear it when I can, it’s been the best investment.
Shown with: sweaterjeansankle boots, bag is Polene

(above & below) cropped puffer
Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS.
Warmth: 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. This coat is VERY warm and comfortable. I wore it to a soccer game in the low 40s and rain recently and was very comfortable.
Thoughts: The cropped puffer coat is perfectly on trend right now. I love the slightly oversized fit and thick neck styling making it very warm. The hood is a great addition, but is removable if you don’t want it.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down one size to XS.
Warmth: 20s, 30s, 40s. The only thing making this coat slightly warmer than the cropped puffer is the length.
Thoughts: This is another classic from several winters ago. I don’t think it’s available in white anymore, but you can find it in other colors. This one washes really well (a must with white) and is perfectly warm. I also like the big pocks.

jillgg’s good life (for less)

What is better than window shopping? (okay, maybe real shopping! But still…) I love shopping for fall and winter… give me ALL the cozy! Today I found some really gorgeous new arrivals for you all. This fair isle sweater is on my wishlist. How about these black shearling clogs – so so cute and cozy! If you are shopping for gifts these fingerless gloves or this monogrammed tote would make great gifts. I have this quilted jacket in my cart right now and your and my favorite cut of jeans is now available in black! There are so many good picks here, I hope you enjoy them…

Style Q & A!

Today I’m answering some of YOUR questions recently… from sneakers, to jeans, to warm sherpa options for fall… let’s dig into your questions!

Q. I’m looking for simple white sneakers that go with jeans and leggings/joggers?

A. There are SO many fun options… here are some that I love for both casual with jeans and more athleisure looks with leggings and joggers. I included all price points so there is truly something here for everyone!

Q. I’m feeling hesitant about making the jump from skinny jeans to straight leg jeans. Which styles should I try?

A. I have three recommendations that won’t feel like a huge jump in styles but that are also still right on trend. The stovepipe jeans are a very slim straight jean with lots of stretch, they are basically the perfect baby step from skinny jeans. The demi boot crop are another great option. They fit like a skinny jean on the top with a small little flare at the ankle which is so cute with flats and sneakers. Finally, if you want to try a true straight leg jean that is still really easy to wear I recommend the perfect vintage. They are super flattering and comfortable and perfectly modern.

Q. I’m looking for a new sherpa for fall? What cute styles have you seen around?

A. There are SO many and boy, do I love a sherpa. Here are my favorites!

Q. After having babies I need to start my closet over from scratch. I’ve gotten rid of lots of items but what should I add back in?

A. This is so common and you aren’t alone! I had the same experience after I had my kids. I had been pregnant off and on for three years and then transitioned from working full time to staying at home full time. I highly recommend starting a Pinterest board and seeing what styles you are drawn to and use those cues to start. I also highly recommend checking out my Capsule Collections for pieces that mix and match well and also lots of ideas on how to style those pieces. You can see the September capsule here and the October capsule here.

6 ways to style: joggers for fall!

These joggers have been a bestseller all month. I just LOVE them and wear them a lot and they were featured in the October Capsule as well. I’ve gotten lots of inquiries on more ways to style them. Today I’ve got some really fun and easy outfit ideas with joggers for fall. Todays outfits are some simple ways to dress up your joggers a little. I’m all for making pulled together looks very comfortable, so these looks are the perfect balance.

I love these joggers because they are super flattering, they fit a little more like a legging up top with some compression. And then they are nice and slim through the leg and the fabric doesn’t easily bag out in the knees which I really appreciate. I went down a size in these joggers. I’m in the size x-small.

(above) Look 1
I love this preppy look. Joggers with a casual button front top and sneakers are a great mom on the go look. It’s made to be more casual with the sleeves cuffed and sweater thrown over the shoulders.
Shop the look: joggers, top, sweater (less expensive option), sneakers, bag is Polene
(above) Look 2
Elevated athleisure is one of my favorite styles to wear. This sweater/sweatshirt combo with a jacket and sneakers is great for moms on the go or attending sporting events. It’s pulled together but super comfortable.
Shop the look: joggers, sneakers, tote, jacket, sweatshirt

(above) Look 3
A boxy sweater and joggers is a great silhouette for weekends and fall activities. I love it with sneakers and a crossbody bag for running errands and hanging with the kids.

(above) Look 4
A shirt-jacket pairs really well with joggers for a trendy fall look. I love these fur lined Birkenstocks for fall, they are surprisingly warm and of course so comfortable.

(above) Look 5
I love throwing a long jacket over joggers because it’s instantly dressed up without really any effort. I paired it with a cashmere sweater which layers so well for warm layers when the days get colder.

(above) Look 6
I love a half zip sweater, which are so trendy right now, with a lightweight jacket. I actually just wore a similar combo to my sons soccer game recently and it was perfect as the sun was setting to keep warm. It’s a great combo.

madewell try ons for fall!

I’ve said it a bunch, but nothing beats Madewell for fall and winter. I just LOVE their cozy sweaters and gorgeous fall hues. They do this season SO well. Right now you can get 20% off your order of $100 or 30% off your order of $200 or more on select items. I always love to shop a sale from Madewell – it’s definitely the best time to buy!

I found some really beautiful fall pieces that I can’t wait to share with you…  sweater weather has definitely arrived in my neck of the woods so I’m excited to dig in with some of these new arrivals.

Sizing: I went with my usual size small. It’s definitely a more shrunken fit. If you prefer a more oversized fit I would suggest going up a size.
Thoughts: This sweater is SO beautiful in person. WOW. The details are just stunning. The sweater is grey with small flecks of color making it extremely unique. This sweater is so “fall” to me and for some reason makes me think of Thanksgiving. Wouldn’t this be gorgeous for Thanksgiving?
Shown with: jeans, clogs

(above & below) cream mockneck sweater
Sizing: True to size, I went with my usual size small. If you wanted a more oversized fit, you could go up one size.
Thoughts: This mockneck with the knitted v-neck pattern is a popular one this year. I have a similar one from Everlane that I love – although the Madewell version is a better price. This sweater is stretchy and cozy and and instant classic.
Shown with: jeansclogs

(above & below) striped top
Sizing: Runs a little oversized. I’m wearing my usual size small.
Thoughts: This top is GORGEOUS in person. It’s a super thick t-shirt material that has really great structure while still being very comfortable and easy to wear. It’s featured in my October Capsule if you want more inspiration on how to style it.
Shown with: jeans or jeans, mules

(above & below) rust open front cardigan
Sizing: I went down a size. This cardigan runs big. I’m wearing XS.
Thoughts: I just LOVE this color this season so this was an instant favorite for me. It’s lightweight but warm and works over tees and tanks for fall. I highly recommend.

(above & below) brown sweatshirt
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small. You could go up a size for more room too.
Thoughts: I just LOVE this sweatshirt. I own the same one in grey from a few seasons ago. It’s a great classic. This brown is so pretty and on trend for fall, it’s also featured in my October Capsule if you want more ideas on how to style it. It also has POCKETS which, duh, is amazing!

Under $30 sweaters for fall with Walmart!

This post is sponsored by Walmart and ShopStyle Collective. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog.

After a few false starts, sweater season is officially, officially here in the Midwest! It’s cozy season and I’m loving wearing all the sweaters right now. Warm drinks, cozy sweaters, the fireplace going and crunching leaves are just a few of the reasons I adore this season. Today I’m partnering with Walmart to chat about all the hottest trends for sweaters this fall. From statement knits to on trend styles Walmart is your go-to source for a fall refresh.

The polo-style sweater is a really fun trend this fall. It’s such a fun nod to the 90’s while being modern and easy to wear at the same time. This one works with jeans for everyday wear or could be dressed up with trousers for the office or a zoom call. You know I can’t resist stripes any time of year and they are perfectly classic for fall. I love this brown and white striped sweater. It’s so soft and has a tiny little puff sleeve that is right on trend this fall. And of course I just love a chunky knit this time of year. This collared cardigan is so pretty in person and the color is just beautiful for fall. All three of these sweaters are under $30 making them so affordable too!

This fall, make Walmart your go-to for all your fashion and household needs. I love the convenience of their FREE 2-day shipping (and free returns) on orders over $35 or the FREE curbside pick up which is especially handy for groceries and household goods.

Let’s take a look at these beautiful sweaters…

jillgg’s good life (for less)

Today’s post is a super fun one… we are talking COLD weather. And while I am one that doesn’t love cold weather, I do have to say… I’m here for cold weather fashion. Haha! Scarves and hats and boots and coats are some of my favorite pieces to shop for and when the cold weather strikes you really want to make sure you have the right clothing for it. After living in the midwest for my whole life and snowy Michigan for over half my life I’ve gotten pretty good at layers and keeping warm.

I thought it would be fun today pull together some cold weather inspiration a little early for those of you that might be booking cold weather travel. Wine tasting, leaf peeping, trips to the mountains or even a little early start on ski season is popular this time of year and I’ve got three looks perfect for those activities. Or if you just want to get an early start on winter shopping… that works too!

Stay tuned later this week for some travel inspiration for warm weather climates as well. Since that is also a very popular way to escape in the fall too…

I am in LOVE with these boots! This look is perfect for a road trip to see leaves and stop at some of your favorite sights. I would wear this for a leaf peeping trip in Northern Michigan with a stop at our favorite brewery or lunch spot!

Wine tasting in the fall is so fun here in Michigan and I’m sure in other popular wine localities around the country. Or if you even brewery tours/stops. I love that this look is a little more dressed up but perfect for staying comfortable and warm.

Layers are key when the cold weather strikes! This look is perfect for antiquing and brunching with friends in the mountains.
