J.Crew finds!

I’ve got just a few recent purchases from J.Crew for summer to you show you today. I feel like the 90s trends are so prevalent lately that I’m so thankful for the simple classics from J.Crew. About 99% of the trends from the 90s I will not be revisiting – I wore all that in high school and I’m not interested in reliving any of that – haha!  Thank goodness for J.Crew! Always just meeting me where I am and making me feel so comfortable and confident in clothing. You know? I found some great classics here today… let’s take a look at the pieces!

relaxed linen top (above & below)

Sizing: Runs big. I went with a size 0 and it’s still quite oversized. I love this oversized fit, but keep in mind if you are ordering for yourself. Also to note this is the “relaxed” fit, if you prefer something more fitted I would try the slim fit.
Thoughts: This top is GREAT. I just love a linen top and this one is SO soft and I love the relaxed oversized fit. This works great with jeans or shorts and will be a great swim cover up too. There are lots of great color options too!

Shown with: jeans, sandals, bag is Polene

beach sweater (above & below)
Sizing: Runs big, I went with my usual size small and it feels too big. I would recommend going down one size.
Thoughts: This sweater is GORGEOUS in person. I’ve mentioned it a million times, but I just love a lightweight summer sweater. This one is linen with an open knit and just so pretty in person. I have THIS sweater and it’s a very similar color, so this one is going back for me. But I’m tempted to snag it in another color – the pink is calling my name!
Shown with: jeans, sandals, tote

rollneck sweater (above & below)
Sizing: True to size. I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I love anything with a rollneck from J.Crew – I’ve always loved their classic rollneck styles. This one is beautifully ribbed with super soft cotton – no itchiness here. It’s a little thicker than the sweater above but great for chilly spring & summer nights. This taupe color is perfectly neutral and easy to wear – but there are other color options too!
Shown with: jeans, sandals, bag, bag strap

sweatshirt  & sweatshorts (above & below)

Sizing: Sweatshirt is size medium, I sized up one for a more oversized fit. Shorts are size XS, they run big so I went down one size. Color is: dusty ivory

Thoughts: I just LOVE this set. I’ve already worn it a few times. It’s SO soft and slouchy and perfectly casual for around the house or running errands. I’ve worn it with Birkenstocks or here with sneakers (these are SO comfortable and perfect for summer!).  You can personalize your sweatsuit with lots of different styles for tops and bottoms, here you can find: wide leg pantspuff sleeve topjogger or a hoodie.

Shown with: sneakers

banana republic finds for spring/summer!

Today I’m excited to share some gorgeous pieces from Banana Republic. I haven’t shopped there in quite a while, but I went down a rabbit hole with some of their new arrivals and everything is GORGEOUS. Because I haven’t shopped in a while I got the sizing a little wrong on a few pieces but I will include all the sizing details below so that you won’t make the same mistake I made. Let’s take a look at the pieces…

chunky cotton cardigan (above & below)
Sizing: I followed the sizing guide and ordered an XS. It fits, but I would prefer a little more oversized fit. So depending on how you prefer it – it does fit a little bigger.
Thoughts: This cardigan is gorgeous. Cottony and soft it’s a perfect topper for cooler mornings or evenings this spring/summer. It works great with tanks and tees or over dresses. It’s just GORGEOUS in person!
Shown with: jeans (runs true to size, maybe a touch big), tank (runs small, size up), sandals, bag is Polene

sandwash dress (above & below)
Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS.
Thoughts: This dress is another really beautiful piece in person. It’s super soft with a really great draping fabric and I love the tie waist and pockets. This color was a little weird on me (pink sand dune) but there are more color options – so be sure to check them out!

chambray shirt dress (above & below)
Sizing: True to size. I went down a size to XS and it’s a little too small in the armpits and chest. True to size with a size small would’ve worked better for me.
Thoughts: Again, such a pretty piece in person. I just LOVE this dress.  It’s simple and classic and can be dressed up for a zoom or the office or just worn as an everyday dress for running errands or hanging with the kids. I love the tie waist and the fabric contains Tencel which makes it very soft to the touch and gives it great drape. Sometimes chambray dresses can feel stiff, but this one is flowy and soft.
Shown with: sandals, bag is Polene

tees (above & below)
Sizing: These run a little big, so I went down a size to XS. You could also go with your usual size for a more oversized fit.
Thoughts: These are a DREAM. Super soft, nice and drapey and I love cut of the sleeve which is very flattering. Also, did I mention they are soft? So soft. The colors shown are “fresh taupe” and “black.”

jillgg’s good life (for less)

It’s graduation season! I’ve been so excited to see so many photos of outdoor ceremonies popping up in my Facebook feed. I’m so excited these kids have been able to celebrate after a really tough year. No matter how the graduates in your life are celebrating this year you’re going to need something to wear to help celebrate – either at ceremonies or backyard celebrations. I’ve already gotten a few questions about what to wear for graduation celebrations so I thought I would pull together some fun outfit inspiration for the season…

top right: black dress, mini bucket bag, floral necklace, black sandals

top left: pink dress, mini straw bag, wedge espadrilles, bracelets

bottom right: blue/white stripe dress, rattan clutch, pearl thong sandals

bottom left: white dress, clutch, braided sandals, rattan earrings

Everlane under $100 spring/summer favorites!

You all know I just LOVE Everlane. Their simple basics are always great for dressing up or dressing down and I keep coming back to many of their pieces in my wardrobe year after year. Today I am sharing a few Everlane favorites for spring and summer – some new pieces and some tried and true. All of these pieces are under $100 and all of them are great quality and so effortlessly beautiful. Let’s take a look at some of my new AND old favorites…

air tee in white (above & below)
Sizing: Runs oversized. I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I first discovered this tee last summer and since then this tee has become a staple in my closet. Perfectly drapey and oversized, it’s casual and easy to layer or wear on it’s own. It’s so nice and lightweight it’s great for warm days. You can also see this tee featured in my “white t-shirt review” post with other white tees. Note: this top can be machine washed but needs to air dry (it dries super fast since it’s so lightweight).
Shown with: jeans (I went with my bigger size, see Everlane denim reviews here!), sandals

air tee in black (above & below)
Sizing: Runs oversized. I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I first discovered this tee last summer and since then this tee has become a staple in my closet. Perfectly drapey and oversized, it’s casual and easy to layer or wear on it’s own. It’s so nice and lightweight it’s great for warm days. Since it’s a little oversized it works great with a small knot in front for  something different. Note: this top can be machine washed but needs to air dry (it dries super fast since it’s so lightweight).
Shown with: jeans (I went with my bigger size, see Everlane denim reviews here!), sandals

linen top (above & below)
Sizing: True to size. I am in size 2 which fits like a small.
Thoughts: I’ve owned this for 2-3 years and I just love it so much. It washes great (just air dry!) and is SO versatile. I love it with jeans, shorts or as a swim cover up. Its a great piece to pack for vacation because you can wear it by the pool or wear it to dinner.
Shown with: jeans (I went with my bigger size, see Everlane denim reviews here!), sandals

Sizing: This is a new style and I got the sizing wrong. It runs a little big. I’m in a small and I think an XS would fit better.
Thoughts: I just love a causal t-shirt dress for spring and summer but this one is even better with little details like the dolman sleeves and tie waist. I’m bummed this one is a little too big. Perfect for errands, zoom meetings or just hanging around the house. It’s a do-everything dress!
Shown with: sandals, bag is Polene

long weekend dress (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I have this same dress from last year in white and it was a popular one last year. It’s perfect to throw on around the house or hanging outside with kids or errands. The tank style is comfortable and easy to wear. This blue is SO pretty – this is my favorite color these days by far.
Shown with: tote, sandals

weekend dress (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small. If you wanted a more oversized feel you could go up a size.
Thoughts: This is another favorite from last summer. I wore this A LOT. It’s another great piece to pack for vacations because you can wear it over a swim suit or on it’s own and it’s great for hot days. It also looks super cute with a denim jacket too!
Shown with: cross body bagsandals

tiered dress (above & below)
Sizing: This is from last year and is a size 2. I think that would be comparable to size small in this years sizing.
Thoughts: I got this last year and NEVER wore it… hmmmmmm, I wonder why!?!? 😉 It’s perfectly lightweight and So fun. The puff sleeves, the tiers – all of it! It’s also super lightweight woven material so it’s great for ultra hot days. It would be great for date night or graduation parties!

tiered t-shirt dress (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, I’m in my usual size small.
Thoughts: I just LOVE this breezy dress – perfect for a swim cover up, a casual day dress or a dressed up for a date night! It also has a very cute scoop in the back which is so fun and summery!
Shown with: sandals

Nordstrom finds!

Today I’ve got some spring/summer finds from Nordstrom for you! A few things fit a little weird/wonky – which is just the way it goes sometimes – but I’m still showing you the sizing fails so that hopefully you can get it right if you choose to order! I can’t even remember the last time I shopped in person for clothing as a combination of just staying home more and just the ease of ordering online. So sizing is naturally going to be a little trickier that way.

The weather is FINALLY starting to warm up and I have to admit it makes getting dressed so fun – ha! It’s the little things I look forward to like getting dressed on a warm and sunny spring day. Let’s take a look at the pieces!

Sizing: I went down a size to XS in the pants and they are still huge! Wow! I would recommend going with a petite if you are around my height (I’m 5’4). This tank runs really small, I am in my usual size small and it’s super small. I recommend going up a size.
Thoughts: I LOVE these linen pants and I am so sad they don’t fit – they are perfect for spring and summer days as an alternative to shorts. Same with this tank, I especially love it with the pants. Just go up a size!
Shown with: straw tote

striped tank (above & below)
Sizing: These tanks run big, size down! I’m in an XS.
Thoughts: These are GREAT basics, I’ve bought these a few years in a row. They are simple and classic and fit great. The soft fabric is so nice and lightweight. They are great on their own or they layer really well with jackets, blazers or cardigans.
Shown with: jacket (color is walnut), jeanssandals, tote

gauze tunic (above & below)
Sizing: Runs big, I went down a size to XS.
Thoughts: I just LOVE this gauze fabric and I’m seeking it out wherever I can find it this season! It’s so soft and lightweight. It feels great to wear. It runs big like a tunic which would make it great for a swim cover up too. But I love that it works for an everyday top too.
Shown with: jeans, sandals, similar bag

Sizing: True to size. They run a touch wide.
Thoughts: I just adore these. I saw them earlier this spring and they sold out super fast. When I saw they were fully restocked I was excited to grab them. The leather is a bit on the stiff side but it’s loosened up as I’ve worn them. They do run wide but I hate a super tight sandal and find it to fit great without being too tight. I love the pale pink for spring and summer as it’s quite neutral so it goes with so much.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down one size to XS. I could have maybe gone down two sizes.
Thoughts: This is a super cute shirt dress for spring and summer. I love the belt cuts a flattering silhouette in the front and the back is free flowing. It’s the perfect everyday chic style that I am drawn to.  Pulled together but very easy to wear. It’s perfect for graduation parties, date night or just around town for errands.

new arrivals I love!

The weather is finally supposed to be warming up in the next few days here – gosh spring has been slow to arrive – and I’m ready to welcome it with lots of great spring outfits. Today I rounded up some new spring arrivals that have caught my eye!

jillgg’s good life (for less)

Today I have some Madewell finds for spring I think you all will really like! We are very much still in transitional wear where I live, spring is SLOW to arrive. Today’s pieces are great for those cooler spring days on their own, or layered for more warmth. Madewell always has so many great wardrobe staples that work so great for casual days around the house and errands or that can be dressed up for zoom meetings or lunch out with friends.

Let’s take a look at the pieces!

Sizing: True to size. If you want a more oversized fit (which I would personally prefer) I recommend going up a size.

Thoughts: I have a similar sweater from last year in stripes and it’s still a favorite so I was excited to try this one! A spring sweater is practically a staple here in my area. We are having such a cool spring, brrr. I will be honest that I wished it was a little more oversized and less fitted (as noted in the size guide). Otherwise I LOVE this sweater. It’s soft and lightweight and great as an alternative to a sweatshirt on cool days.

Sizing: Runs big, I went down to a size XS with still a nice oversized fit.

Thoughts: This top is GORGEOUS! The perfect spring/summer piece. You can throw a jacket overtop for cool days or wear on it’s own with jeans or shorts for warmer days. This pieces is a total classic.

Sizing: True to size. I’m in my usual size small, you could size up for a more oversized fit too.

Thoughts: This is such a good tee! It’s hemp/cotton with a nice texture. The extended sleeves on the tank make it a super flattering cut as well. This is a great summer tee!

Sizing: True to size, I’m in my usual size small.

Thoughts: This is such a great spring/summer classic. I’ve worn it quite a few times like this as a pullover, but it also works with a tank and unbuttoned. I got this one a few months ago, but I just noticed its available in a few new colors too!

target try on!

I’ve got some CUTE new finds from Target for you… I think you are really going to love some of these pieces. I know I do already! Also, if you haven’t seen my previous SPRING Target try on session also be sure to check that one out here, since it has tons more items and many of them are still in stock!

Let’s take a look at the pieces…

Sizing: Oversized. I’m in my usual size small and it still quite oversized.
Thoughts: I LOVE this! The oversized fit is actually great for warm days, it’s so airy. This top is perfect with white jeans for a little spring/summer outfit or it would be super cute as a swim cover up too! I love a button front top to throw over swim!
Shown with: jeans, sandals, tote

high rise pull on short (above & below)
Sizing: True to size, maybe a touch big. I’m in my usual size small.
Thoughts: Who can resist a super comfortable and airy pair of shorts that are also mom friendly? I mean. I’ll take it! I wouldn’t usually be drawn to these but I thought ‘heck, I’ll try them’ and I actually really like them. The gauze material is so light and airy and the high rise and longer cut are super mom friendly. And they have pockets! I was also thinking they would be adorable with an oversized sweatshirt for a cooler day too.
Shown with: similar denim jacket, tank (runs small, size up), similar circle bag, slides (shop here or here)

gauze short sleeve dress (above & below)
Sizing: Fits true to size, I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: This is SO cute. This isn’t a silhouette I am usually drawn to, but when I tried it on I instantly liked it. It’s a soft gauze fabric that seems to be everywhere these days and I’m loving it. Also, it has pockets!
Shown with: Polene bag, similar sandals

Sizing: True to size, I am in my usual size small.
Thoughts: This is a CLASSIC summer piece. So lightweight and the pale blue stripes just scream beachy warm days! It will be great with shorts later this summer but for now I love it with jeans and sneakers for a great mom-on-the-go look!
Shown with: jeans, sneakers (so comfy!), bag is old Chloe – this is similar!

Sizing: I am in a medium since it was the only size left. A small would’ve worked better but this fits fine since the shoulder straps are adjustable and the back is elastic to stretch.
Thoughts: This is by far my favorite piece in the bunch and I don’t usually go for thin straps like this! It’s the perfect dress for a super hot day with the lightweight gauze material. Ideally I would wear it as a swim cover up – can’t wait for those days! But it would be a great dress for a girls lunch or date night.
Shown with: sandals, hat
